The Atherton Tablelands Food Trail is on an expanse of tropical volcanic plateau stretching to the west and south of Cairns. It is where the rainforest meets the outback with lush green pastures that produce some of the creamiest dairy products in Australia. Accessible from the Palmerston Hwy from the south, the Kennedy Hwy from the north or up the scenic Gillies Hwy from Gordonvale midway along the Plateau.
This area is full of natural attractions where you can picnic with your local produce hamper beside crater lakes, waterfalls and giant Curtin fig trees.
Allow more than one day to explore this trail as the diversity of produce grown on the Atherton Tableland is extensive. From peanuts to dairy, native fruit to tea and coffee, there is everything you can desire and more. Combined with amazing natural features and epic scenery, it is a journey worth travelling.
